Collingham Cricketer signs for Bradford City FC

Former Collingham cricketer and footballer David Syers has secured a 10 month deal with League 2 side Bradford City after scoring as a substitute in the Bantams' win over Nottingham Forest.

David started his cricketing and football career at Collingham, where SA Sports Coaching run summer courses for children in the area. Since then he went on to play cricket for Pudsey St.Lawrence, Spen Victoria and finally Farsley in the Bradford League where he has achieved a great deal of success as a batsman, wicketkeeper and captain. His football career took him to Ossett, Farsley Celtic and Harrogate Town before finally signing full time professional terms with Bradford City earlier this month.

Syers was due to play for Farsley CC in the Bradford League Priestley Cup Final this Sunday but is now unavailable due to his football commitments. Syers said “It’s still not fully sunk in that I’m playing professional football. It still feels like I might be told not to come in the next day. But it’s the dream that I’m lucky enough to be living at the moment.”
