Preparations for a new season

So as we move into March our minds move towards the impending cricket season beginning next month. Cricketers at all levels, young and old, will have high hopes for a successful season, maybe winning some silverware, earning selection for the junior county sides or possibly earning a new contract at the end of the season in the professional game. One thing remains constant however, at all levels the players best prepared will have the most successful start to the season.

I am currently in training for a new season with Suffolk CCC.

Adjusting to Minor Counties cricket

James at Yorkshire CCC

Since my release from Yorkshire I have started playing Minor Counties Cricket at Suffolk CCC. The viewpoint from a lot of county professionals is that minor counties cricket is of an average standard and is ‘soft’ cricket. Turning up to my first practice session in the winter I didn’t really know what to expect.

Mentally strong

As a young cricketer you are always told of the need for mental strength to succeed at the top level. However, do we as cricketers really require mental strength when we are playing well? Unfortunately the answer to this is no.

Fulfilling a Dream

James at Yorkshire CCC

This was it, driving into the Yorkshire CCC car park in my brand new Yorkshire club tracksuit and polo shirt, I was about to embark on the cricket tour that was to springboard my cricket career into the international game, or so i thought.

From club cricketer to county professional

James Finch

Starting out as a junior at the age of 10 at Guiseley Cricket Club, Friday night practice was always something I looked forward to at school all week. At 6pm every Friday I would go down to the cricket club with my best mate and play windball cricket with a group of lads and just have a great time without thinking about any form of future in the game.
